Picture 1:  In addition to using the black and white settings on my new iPhone 6, I used the Photo fx app to adjust the light balancing in the image.  I used the "halo effect" in the app in order to bring out the subject and make it a little brighter.   I just purchased my first smartphone this past spring after having a flip phone the past seven years, so I am still getting used to using all these cool apps.  I am looking forward to learning more as the class progresses.

  1. My favorite photos are the first one with your dog and the fourth one with the glass and water flower. I like the lighting balance that you did to the first picture because it looks as if your dogs is glowing, which makes me focus more on him/her than the background, but the background is not so dark that I cannot make out other parts of the environment. I also like the fourth picture because it looks like the flower is not a flower in water, but a flower design on the glass. I also like the contrast of light and dark. The background is light, while the liquid in the glass is dark, and the flower is light, it is a very nice pattern.

  2. My favorite photo is number 8. The contrast is not too heavy so I am able to see the overall picture both of the carousel and the car ride in the back. this picture gives a sense of loneliness and sadness. It seems as though the place is vacant.. Capturing a picture that might have been once colorful and full of people is now empty and sad. The angle of the picture gives a different perspective of not only the carousel but other rides as well. Very nice picture capturing a unique seen with a sense of sadness.

  3. Hi Colleen! I am a big fan of your second picture! I love the emotion and movement in the flowers. I also love that there is a subject in the foreground and background.

  4. My favorite photo is # 6, it gets a lot of my attention because there's something so different about that tree, maybe the fact that such a big tree is so close to the wall, just standing there alone... and elevated, it is so unnatural. I also like #9. it makes for beautiful texture...

  5. I love picture number three. The clouds under the low saturation add a nice contrast and such an interesting way to see clouds. The single bird gives this photo more of a lonely feeling to this photo.

  6. Number 8 is definitely my favorite. The contrast and subject matter make it a vey compelling photo. To me carousels (no matter how small) are supposed to be fun and bright so seeing it in black and white seems so depressing. It kind of sucks the childhood right out of me.

  7. Hey! I really like the photo you posted for number 4. The picture is really interesting to look at because i'm not sure of what's inside the vase. It makes me want to keep looking into it more to figure out what it is. The contrast level you chose as well really helped bring out the details of whatever is inside the vase.
